"Imago" Befriending Project

The Imago Project is designed to help people who are going through a time of personal crisis by helping them regain their confidence and self-esteem.

Imago visitors offer help to people suffering from minor mental illness, providing vital support to people seeking to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement or loneliness.

After an initial referral from the GP or other health professional, each potential client is visited by the Imago Project Manager or Assistant Manager and if the programme is suitable, the client is matched with an Imago visitor who will meet with them once or twice a week for up to 3 - 5 months.

Activities could include walks, going out for coffee, taking part in local activities or just having a friendly chat, with activities tailored to meet individual needs. A number of clients have returned to work or enrolled in education classes to pursue qualifications or new careers.
